Trend Report: New York Fashion Week Spring ’18

October 05, 2017

It may feel like we’ve only just said goodbye to the warm weather months. But the fashion wheel keeps on turning and over in New York, the fashion week showings for Spring 2018 have come to a close. For a glimpse into next season’s most defining looks, we’ve rounded up the best of New York Fashion Week.

A Taste for Romance

Ruffled sleeves, chiffon skirts and pretty, feminine florals… Spring ’18 is one for the romantic at heart. Celebrating everything bright and cheerful that the season brings, the runways at Tory Burch and Marchesa were floral-filled with nods to old-world Victorian charm.

Michael Kors and Victoria Beckham meanwhile introduced us to the next big It color for Spring: lavender. We also spotted the royal shade drizzled in glitter at Coach, in pale linen and pleated chiffon at Tibi and bold, buttoned-up layers at Rosie Assoulin.

Then, just to remind us that we are in fact living in the 21st century, waist-cinching got a menswear twist with midriff-grazing high-rise pants. The creations at Diane von Furstenberg and Alexander Wang meanwhile were loose-fitting and harem-like with a sleek, shiny finish.

A Business Affair

Plaid and patterns ruled the fall runways and Spring ’18 won’t be left behind. Next season’s update however is much cuter - boxy plaid blazers paired with matching shorts at Monse, or fitted shorts and blazer combinations adorned in tiny florals as at Anna Sui.

Then, a trend we thought we’d never see again: belt bags! Remember those around-the-waist moon bags from the 90s? Suddenly though, they’re cool again. Gucci first brought the trend back with their GG Marmont belt bag in the pre-fall season. The Spring ’18 reincarnation is made to match your clothing to a tee. Zimmerman and Marc Jacobs presented belt bags in the very same fabric as their clothing designs.

For the modern businesswoman, there’s the updated trench dress. Jason Wu, Michael Kors and Phillip Lim infused military edge with soft feminine lines. Think of the classic trench coat but the Spring ’18 version comes complete with ruffles, capped sleeves and flowing A-line skirts – super chic!
